Hair Loss (balding) & Excessive Facial Hair (Women)
Hair loss (Balding)
Propecia (Finasteride) for men
Propecia is currently the most effective licensed drug for treating hair loss. It slows, stops or regrows hair in 88% of men (re-growth in 37%).
The chemical name for it is Finasteride and has been used in hair loss for more than ten years.
It needs to be used for at least a year before you can be sure whether it's working although some people will see improvement before this, even by three months occasionally. The longer it is used for, the better, as each year after the first twelve months, there continues to be a 2-3% improvement until a plateau is reached after five years.
However, 80-90% of the best achievable result will be reached within 12-18 months. Please phone us for further details.

Before and after DermMatch
Daily care for hair
Shampoos and conditioners generally coat the hair with silicone or similar chemicals, which will give fine, wispy hair more "body" and make it look thicker.
They can be beneficial and are worth trying for hair loss but they will not affect the underlying quality of the hair or ongoing hair loss. We recommend simple shampoos as they usually have fewer but the highest quality ingredients.
Natural shampoos based on Aloe Vera are beneficial and the Forever Living range offers a shampoo and conditioner with Aloe Vera as the principle ingredient, unlike many high street brands that claim to be Aloe Vera shampoos but contain only a small amount.
Aloe Vera Shampoo
Stabilised Aloe Vera gel is the main ingredient in this pH-balanced formulation. It brings not only benefits for the hair but also the scalp. The anti-bacterial properties of the gel make this a natural alternative to many medicated shampoos on the chemist's shelves. Also contains Jojoba oil, which is an excellent lubricant and replenishes lost moisture and nutrients to the skin and hair. The shampoo is concentrated so a little does go a long way. It is perfect for troubled hair and scalp for many reasons:
Saponins and natural sudsing agents supply both the cleansing and the natural agents that fortify hair to give it body.
Its enzymatic activity helps slough off and dissolve dead cells, setting the stage for the restoration of healthy tissue.
The healthy tissue in turn is helped by the presence of amino acids. The complete amino acid complex in Aloe Vera is the same complex that is natural to the healthy papillae and follicles of the hair.
It is bactericidal and fungicidal.

Aloe Vera Conditioner
This conditioning rinse is pH balanced to care gently for your scalp and hair. To be used after the Aloe shampoo and has a synergistic combination of Aloe Vera and Jojoba oil. Like the shampoo, the principle ingredient is Aloe Vera (unlike some shop brands) and it leaves the hair with a protective coating that helps to combat excessive drying.

Aloe Styling Gel
The principle ingredient of this hair gel is Aloe Vera gel. It fortifies your hair and repairs your hair while giving you the flexibility to create any style you want. Its humidity resistant and alcohol-free formula provides optimum holding power with extra body, shine and volume without stickiness. Can be used on wet and dry hair.

Aloe Pro-Set
This specially prepared hair spray contains the best ingredients available but without alcohol. Many hairsprays in the shops contain alcohol, which can harm the hair by dehydrating it. Prolonged use of alcohol-based hair sprays can lead to follicles becoming clogged and the hair can become discoloured. And, of course the environment is another victim of the chemical propellants used in aerosols. The main ingredient is purified water to replenish lost moisture, stabilised Aloe Vera Gel to increase the hair's elasticity for better styling and vegetable protein extracts to replenish lost nutrients.

Excessive Facial Hair (Women)
Vaniqa Crème
Vaniqa is a prescription crème used topically to slow the growth of unwanted facial hair in women.
It works by interfering with an enzyme found in the hair follicle of the skin needed for hair growth. This results in slower hair growth and improved appearance where Vaniqa is applied.
Vaniqa does not permanently remove hair or "cure" unwanted facial hair with just one application. However over time the medication will slow and eventually stop the unwanted hair from growing. Your treatment program should include continuation of any hair removal technique you are currently using. Vaniqa will help you manage your condition and improve your appearance.
Vaniqa is a prescription medication and should only be taken when prescribed by a doctor. Please call us for more details.
Hair Transplantation
For many people, surgery is the only treatment available that will reliably and consistently replace hair in bald areas.
If hair transplantation is an option you wish to consider we can refer you to Dr Richard Rogers, at his clinics in Stratford-Upon-Avon and London's Harley Street. Dr Rogers is one of only a few, full time specialists in hair restoration in the UK.
He originally trained to be a GP, which is why he sees each patient personally - simply transplanting hair is only part of his bespoke service.
Dr Rogers further specialised in dermatology, before fate took a hand. He accidentally came across an apprenticeship in hair restoration and thought that this additional knowledge and skill would be useful as a consultant dermatologist. That was ten years ago and now Dr Rogers has made his mark in his Hair Restoration Surgery career.
In that time, he has performed literally thousands of hair transplant procedures but has also advised patients to wait, or even not to start, if it isn't suitable for them.
Dr Rogers is a member of the following organisations:
- The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery ISHRS
- European Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons ESHRS
- British Association of Hair Surgeons (Committee member) BAHRS
- The Trichological Society ( Founder member and President 2005 )
- Member of the Institute of Trichologists
